Leadership

Leading under pressure
The best teams don’t become inclusive under pressure. They already are.
When pressure rises, weak communication, hidden divisions, and leadership gaps become impossible to ignore. Inclusive leaders build trust, accountability, and connection before the stakes are high, so their teams are ready when performance matters most.
No Ego
Rank and title dissolved under rising water
No Silos
Soldiers and civilians worked as one unit
No Room
For dysfunction when costs are high
The story
The Mississippi River nearly erased the historic town of Ste. Genevieve, Missouri. Mason was an officer in the Missouri Army National Guard when his unit was activated for emergency flood duty.
For weeks the water kept rising. Sleep was scarce. Supplies were limited. The country was watching. If they failed, homes, businesses, and buildings standing since the 1700s would have been gone. Not missed targets. Gone.
Soldiers and civilians worked side by side. No ego. No silos. No room for dysfunction. What united them was not a policy. It was pressure with purpose.
The lesson for every organization
Most teams never face a flood. But every team faces moments when the cost of dysfunction becomes visible. Inclusive leadership is not a diversity initiative. It is a performance strategy for leaders who cannot afford to lose when it counts.
